About Me

coleslaw and coffeeWhen I was 17, I dipped my hands into vats of ice-cold coleslaw for a living. From the freezing side of a conveyor belt I watched my student holidays roll by, thinking, one day, I will do something fun to earn a living. And now I do. (Although, I’ll never look at pots of coleslaw in quite the same way).

Since then, I’ve answered phones for Starbucks-slurping ad execs in Manhattan, served jello-shots to dancing big-wigs on a bar floor, flipped McMuffins on the breakfast shift and gift-wrapped flowers for your friendly local supermarket.

Well, what’s a writer got to say, if she hasn’t lived?

With many a mucky apron under my belt, I’ve worked my way up to a Starbucks-slurping ad girl, as creative copywriter in Dubai, for two of the world’s biggest agencies.  Instead of salad, I’ve served major accounts such as General Motors and Kelloggs with ATL and BTL creativity.

I also launched the online version of the UAE’s biggest selling women’s magazine, AhlanLive.com, and thrust myself upon the publishing industry with feature articles and interviews for lots of lovely magazines and newspapers.

In London, I was online travel and entertainments editor for one of the UK’s biggest dot com ventures, lastminute.com (the best job I’ve ever had!) And as city editor for a series of Bar and Restaurant guides, I’ve watched many books come together at the hands of a talented team of scribblers, and a bunch of free meals, (the second best job I’ve ever had).

I’m an itchy-footed, laptop-toting traveler at times – aren’t we all – so I keep my profile as an invited writer at thetraveleditor.com up to date. Where travel writing is concerned, I’m also a SimonSeeks.com competition winner (oh, the glory) and I never leave the house without my camera.

So, who is this person who thinks she can handle your workload? Well, you’re quite right to still be asking questions! Check out my portfolio, and if there’s anything else you need, please get in touch.

Just don’t mention ‘coleslaw’.
